Looping Navajo Nation

Grand Canyon

Grand Canyon on the rocks

We took a couple of days to explore the Grand Canyon. KC published books about this area. Knew the earliest people involved in the park setup personally. And travelled the Colorado river downstream himself one day.

I sure would like to to that myself one day. But I’ll probably do a run from South to North rim first!

Best sights from the Butte’s

Planned a short stay over at Page area. We knew there is much to see. But still had to decide to stay one day extra.

Gladely got offered to see to sight from above. KC was once dropped on top of the Gunsight tower for an advertisement shoot. Lonely standing at the top to shoot an aircraft passing by. It must have been an amazing shot!

Coal Mine Canyon

Learned a few Navajo and Hopi words. Had an excellent stay over at the Hopi Cultural Center and enjoyed a Navajo lunch at their local Flee market. Very warm and friendly people. And what an amazing country they have!

The good thing about having KC as a guid is that I would never have found Coal Mine Canyon myself! Hidden treasure!

Petrified Forest & Meteor Crater

Petrified trees, fragile as glas.

Took of along the old route 66. Drove through Petrified Forest National Park. An ancient forest that was sumberged in a swamp. Because of all the minerals in the water a vast amount of trees got petrified. A miraculous sight!

On the way to wickenburg visited the Meteor Crater.
Difficult to comprehend that in 20 seconds dust cleared after the hit with an enormous impact on future life.

KC again had lots of background on this park. Knew the earliest scientist overhere. They drilled straight down a couple of tiems to find the meteor. But never did. After a cowboys shot in the ground at an angle they realised the meteor probably had down in a similar angle. One of the slopes is a bit higher then the other. They tried to drill in that area. But broke all of their best diamond drills!
